We Empower Her is a refugee-led organization in Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda. We give women and girls the knowledge, the reusable cups, and the confidence to manage their menstrual health safely, so no girl misses school because of her period.

Who We Are

Talking about menstruation and reproductive health is still a taboo in many communities. That silence leads to early pregnancies, health problems, and girls dropping out of school. We Empower Her exists to break that silence.

We are a safe and inclusive space where women and girls can reclaim their bodily autonomy, manage their menstrual health with dignity, and build the leadership skills to thrive. We believe no girl should miss school because of her period, and no one should face stigma for talking about their own body.

Our impact

Real change, in real communities

3,973 women and girls reached with accurate menstrual health information
3,766 reusable cups distributed with follow up visits
4,000 pupils (boys and girls) reached through Period Positive Schools, alongside 20 trained teachers
2,052 community members including men, women, boys and girls joined in the community engagement events across 8 communities in Period Positive Schools project.
Reduced absenteeism, with school headmasters confirming fewer girls missing class during their periods.
